JOB PURPOSE

The Advisor, Chief Economist provides the Director General and Board with strategic economic insights, expert analysis, and forward-looking assessments to support high-level decision-making. The role leads economic intelligence, produces high-impact research, and strengthens AMF’s position as a regional reference in macroeconomic policy and economic strategy.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide the Director General and Board with authoritative, evidence-based economic assessments to support strategic decisions, institutional priorities, and regional policy engagement.
  • Advise on macroeconomic risks, global shocks, and structural reform opportunities affecting Arab economies.
  • Produce forward-looking economic scenarios, strategic outlooks, and impact assessments on key global and regional trends.
  • Lead development of institutional positions on critical economic issues (inflation, fiscal sustainability, financial markets, digital economy, economic integration)
  • Oversee the design and production of high-level economic research, white papers, policy briefs, and strategic notes for both internal and external audiences.
  • Guide cross-departmental research collaboration to strengthen AMF’s analytical rigor and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Identify, initiate, and supervise specialized research projects in macroeconomics, financial stability, digital transformation, climate economics, and innovation policy.
  • Review regional and global data trends to produce timely insights on economic conditions across member states.
  • Develop and refine forecasting tools and models to evaluate macroeconomic performance, policy impacts, and emerging risks.
  • Ensure that forecasts, indices, and analytical outputs maintain world-class quality standards and methodological integrity.
  • Represent AMF in high-level economic forums, policy discussions, and international engagements with central banks, ministries of finance, international organizations, and academic institutions.
  • Strengthen strategic partnerships with global think tanks, research centers, and multilateral financial institutions.
  • Promote AMF’s role as a regional leader in economic intelligence and thought leadership.
  • Champion the use of advanced analytical tools, big data, and digital platforms to enhance the quality and timeliness of economic insights.
  • Promote innovative approaches to analyzing economic transformations, including AI applications, digital finance, and climate-related macroeconomic impacts.
  • Oversee preparation of AMF’s flagship economic publications and ensure broad dissemination of key findings.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge and Experience:

 

  • 15+ years of senior-level experience in macroeconomics, economic policy, or financial sector analysis.
  • Strong background in economic modeling, forecasting, and policy evaluation.
  • Proven experience advising senior executives or decision-makers.
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to present complex analysis clearly.

 

Education:

 

  • Ph.D. in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, or related field (preferred).
  • Master’s degree acceptable with significant senior experience.
